- Comedy 101 for Teens! with Joe Matarese
- Are you interested in trying your hand at comedy? Are you looking for a creative release? Do you have something snarky to say but nowhere to say it? Then Comedy 101 for Teens is for you! This 6-week course will introduce you to the world of standup comedy and is an excellent opportunity for those looking to work on their confidence in public speaking. You’ll learn about stage presence, mic handling, the basics of joke structure, and comedy writing skills, leading you to kill your first 5-minute set. The class will conclude with a show at West Side Comedy Club, where students can get on stage and try out their newly minted set in front of a live audience. Everyone who performs will walk away with a high-def recording of their set to take home. Our instructors are working comics themselves with credits to their name; they can speak directly to the industry as it is today. At FUNY Standup, The Standup Comedy School, we are passionate about helping people find their funny. Joe was also featured on America’s Got Talent, where he received a standing ovation from all four celebrity judges.Joe has two comedy specials, Medicated and The Poster's Wrong, both now available for free on YouTube. - This Advanced 6-week course focuses on writing techniques, stage presence, and help you continue to hone your unique comedy voice. Every week you will have the opportunity to get onstage and receive feedback in order to level-up your 5-minute set*. - Tight Five, An Advanced Workshop with Cory Kahaney
- Join Cory Kahaney for an afternoon workshop, polishing your tight-five set. Students will have the opportunity to get on stage, perform their material and receive feedback.This course is intended for comedians who are already working at their craft and have a strong understanding of joke writing and a five minute set they are looking to refine and polish. About Cory Kahaney:Cory Kahaney has appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and David Letterman. Other television appearances include CONAN, This Week at the Comedy Cellar, The View and The Late, Late Show. with Craig Ferguson.Cory was a grand finalist NBC’s Last Comic Standing and a semifinalist on America’s got Talent. She has comedy specials on Comedy Central and HBO.As a public speaker, Cory presented a Tedx called “The Joke that Saved my Life” chronicling her journey from domestic abuse to a comedy career.Other talks include: “Don’t tell Jerry Lewis women are funny”; a multimedia presentation of rare archival footage. - Four-Week Standup Intensive with Clayton Fletcher
- Want to work on building your comedy toolbox? Are you looking for meaningful feedback on your material? Or are you interested in getting your start as a standup comic but unsure where to start? Join us for a Four-Week Standup Intensive with Clayton Fletcher! Our 4-week course reviews topics including writing skills & stage presence, joke structures, where to find material, and the basics of crafting a set. The course will conclude with a show at West Side Comedy Club, allowing students to perform their 5-minute set in front of a live audience. Please note: Final Performances are recorded and subject to be used on our social media platforms. Our instructors are all working comics themselves with credits to their name; they can speak directly to the industry as it is today. Clayton Fletcher is one of the Co-Founders of FUNY Standup, in additon to being a NY-based comic with a special, Middle Child Syndrome. Clayton is also the co-author of The ROI of LOL (p. - Join us April 29th at 6pm at West Side Comedy Club for another installment of:Comics Helping Comics! Our panel of industry veterans, including Felicia Madison, Clayton Fletcher, Brian Scott McFadden, & Denise Grayson (with more names to be announced soon) will offer words of wisdom, anecdotal stories, and provide insight into what has and has not worked for them on their comedy journeys.
